A DAY IN THE LIFE:
As a Hardware Engineer II, you'll play a pivotal role in designing the hardware that powers next-generation spacecraft. Your day-to-day will involve developing analog, power, and embedded board-level systems, often juggling multiple projects where your decisions make a real impact. You’ll collaborate with cross-functional teams—including software, HDL, and mechanical engineers—to bring integrated, high-performance space systems to life.

You won’t just be designing—you’ll be solving complex challenges, guiding PCB layouts, shaping signal integrity, and mentoring junior engineers. From concept through launch, you’ll be hands-on with every phase of development, driving innovation in space hardware.

  • Design and Develop Hardware Systems: Lead the design, debug, and testing of analog, power, and embedded boards with high-speed interfaces like Rocket I/O, Ethernet, and LVDS.
  • Provide PCB Design Expertise: Support internal and external layout teams, ensuring compliance with high-speed design best practices and stack-up requirements.
  • Collaborate Across Disciplines: Interface with software, HDL, and mechanical design teams to integrate complex subsystems, and support junior engineers in development and design reviews.
  • Create and Reviews Documentation: Develop specifications, Interface Control Documents (ICDs), proposals, and user manuals, ensuring they meet the high standards required for space systems.
  • Conduct Signal and Power Integrity Analysis: Perform signal and power integrity simulation and analysis, ensuring reliable operation of high-speed designs and effective performance in challenging environments.

YOU’RE AWESOME AT:

  • Embedded Hardware Design: You’re a schematic design pro, with deep experience in development and debugging of board-level systems.
  • High-Speed Interface Design: You know how to design, simulate, and troubleshoot high-speed digital interfaces, applying best practices in signal integrity.
  • PCB Layout Guidance: You provide clear direction on layout strategies, interface specs, and stack-up configurations to maximize performance.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: You’re comfortable working across disciplines and helping teams merge software, firmware, and hardware into cohesive systems.
  • Technical Documentation: You write documentation that's as strong as your designs—clear, complete, and aligned with engineering standards.
  • Mentoring Junior Engineers: You support and coach junior engineers, sharing your knowledge and helping them grow into technical leaders.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
  • 5 or more years of experience in embedded and board-level hardware design.
  • Proven expertise in at least two or more of the following:
    • Microprocessor architecture, programmable logic, memory systems, and digital logic.
    • High-speed interface design (simulation, layout, and debug).
    • Multi-discipline product development involving mechanical and firmware teams—ideally in space, aerospace, or defense industries.
    • PCB layout strategy, high-speed stack-up design, and routing rules.
    • Writing and reviewing specifications, proposals, ICDs, and user documentation.
    • Signal integrity and power integrity simulation, modeling, and analysis.
  • Ability to obtain a U.S. security clearance.

Voluntary Self-Identification of Disability
Voluntary Self-Identification of Disability Form CC-305
OMB Control Number 1250-0005
Expires 04/30/2026
Why are you being asked to complete this form?

We are a federal contractor or subcontractor. The law requires us to provide equal employment opportunity to qualified people with disabilities. We have a goal of having at least 7% of our workers as people with disabilities. The law says we must measure our progress towards this goal. To do this, we must ask applicants and employees if they have a disability or have ever had one. People can become disabled, so we need to ask this question at least every five years.

Completing this form is voluntary, and we hope that you will choose to do so. Your answer is confidential. No one who makes hiring decisions will see it. Your decision to complete the form and your answer will not harm you in any way. If you want to learn more about the law or this form, visit the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) website at www.dol.gov/ofccp.
